In the dormitory, a former sailor is appointed as the commandant of weavers. He soon discovers that the soul of the collective entrusted to him is Vera Golubeva, who is engaged in arranging the personal lives of her friends. A matchmaker by calling, she has organized something akin to a free matrimonial agency, collecting data about potential suitors from across the country. Initially, relations between Vera and the new commandant do not develop smoothly, but gradually he falls in love with this charming and proactive woman.
